DO BANK CHAIRMEN HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE?

The FT's John Plender has published an article earlier this month asking if bank chairman have the necessary knowledge to perform the roles well. According to a forthcoming study by Nestor Advisors in London, expertise levels among chairman of Europe's top banks is below par. They find the average number of chairmen with banking expertise within the sample was a little over half in 2014, only somewhat higher than the pre-crisis period.  The backdrop for all of this is of course that the challenges of running a bank has clearly risen from a business strategy, risk profile, regulatory and reputational perspective with nearly two-thirds of the chairman have been appointed during the period.  Another finding is that 18% of bank chairman have full time executive positions elsewhere compared to just 5% in 2007.  The full article can be found here:http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/a003b55e-70f5-11e5-9b9e-690fdae72044.html
