Boards and Corporate Culture

CITY A.M. has published an aricle on its website about the challenges of boards establishing the right "corproate culture".

Entitled "Why its time boards faced up to the corporate culture challenge" by Win Bischoff and published back on January 12th, 2015, it squares up well with recent pronouncements from the FRC in 2014 calling for setting the right "tone from the top", a skill Bischoff understands well.   Sir Win describes corporate culture as "the sum of knowledge, beliefs, values and experiences acquired by a group of people over a period of time working or living together".  He also associates corporate culture with risk governance and risk appetite set at the top but appreciated throughout the firm.

This article calls for firms to strive to find the appropriate balance between innovation and risk taking, maintaining culture during change and crisis, and encouraging constructive discussion among shareholders and other stakeholders on culture on a regular basis.
