US Banks Outperform European Rivals

Robert Weigand has just published an article in Talkmarkets and related research on SSRN entitled Eurozone Banks Ready to Implode, Part 1: It's Bad, You Know. Weigand is Professor of Finance and Business Strategy at Washburn University and writes/researches/teaches frequently on financial markets.  His piece is not pretty reading for European banks and illustrates the different paths and outcomes followed by the authorities to restructure thier respective banking systems.

His work illustrates the dire straights of European banking and the robust out performance of US banks with respect to numerous measures, including stock performance, risk, portfolio trends, and profitability.  I was surprised to see the divergence in terms of loan portfolio growth of US bank (+35% between 2010 and 2013) versus European bank shrinkage by 10% for the same period.   See his article at http://www.talkmarkets.com/content/us-markets/eurozone-banks-ready-to-implode-part-1-its-bad-you-know?post=56547&utm_source=outbrain&utm_medium=referral.
